Human Performance Laboratory

The HPLAB at Korea University investigates human cognitive processes related to cognitive control, response selection, visual selective attention, and emotion. We believe that understanding the control mechanisms is important because human beings always perceive information from environment and make responses by their actions. Therefore, the ability to flexibly adjust mental set is one of the most important processes for human. In addition, as emotional process modulates our attentional process, we investigate interactions between attention and emotion.

To accomplish our research goals, we use mainly behavioral measures and psychophysiological measures including electrodermal activity (EDA), electrocardiography (ECG) and electroencephalography (EEG). In these days, we analyze EEG data with machine learning methods (MVPA) to decode human brain activities. Furthermore, we also use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to study cognitive control and visual selective attention. In collaboration with our colleagues, we hope to understand human brain activities especially in cognitive control and attentional processes.
